In less than two months of Ministerial Inauguration into Federal Executive Council (FEC) by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate in his healthcare assessment tour to Health facilities across the Country has recently visited the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
Prof. Pate said that, access to healthcare is the quality of the services they receive from the healthcare provider, saying that the President is all out to harness and boost potentials of the health sector for quality service delivery in the Country, hence the need to strengthen collaboration with the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and other Hospitals to improve on such services all in a quest to reducing mortality rate and medical tourism.
He described the visit as a necessary step for actualizing the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration of harnessing and boosting potentials of the health sector for optimum service delivery in the Country.
Having seen the infrastructure development in the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, where the Management is committed in building a hospital system within a healthcare system with different components of healthcare services, Prof. Pate noted that the commitment is a revolution in Nigeria's healthcare system where we have large facilities of thousands of bed in an organized way that is befitting to minimize the burden of emerging diseases, mobilizing resources from Public sector and individuals for continued quality healthcare delivery in North-East Nigeria.
Prof. Pate commended the Chief Medical Director University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo for championing the reform of the healthcare sector by providing an enabling environment for medical personnel to continue to deliver quality healthcare services to people, pledging that the present administration is committed to harnessing the potential that is in the workforce across the country to accelerate transformation of renewed hope agenda of present administration. He added that "the first thing in transformation is effective leadership and good governance which Prof. Ahidjo and Borno State Government must be commended.
The Honourable Minister also pledged to diversify the means of energy source in the Hospital, especially in critical areas ranging from Intensive Care Unit, Theater, Isolation Center, Surgical to Medical Wards to continue to deliver the quality healthcare services that are needed.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chief Medical Director University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Professor Ahmed Ahidjo said that Nigeria's healthcare system needs global public health expert like Prof. Pate and solicited for the Minister's support and commitment for transforming the healthcare system in Nigeria.
He noted that the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital has over 100 Professors, 200 specialists, over 1000 trained Nurses in addition to infrastructure and state-of-the- arts facilities which enables the hospital to realize its motto as “ Center of Excellence” in healthcare services. Prof. Ahidjo lamented on the challenge of energy that the Hospital has been facing for a long period of time, which he described as the impediment that affects the quality of healthcare services delivery, but was surmountable by provision of solar energy system to the critical areas.
